Andrea Ray Alessio, University of Washington Board Fellow
For eleven of the past 12 years, Andrea worked in education, justice and/or faith-based environments, as both a high school teacher and university administrator. Most recently Andrea taught at Holy Names Academy, an all-girls independent Seattle school, as a social studies/religious studies faculty member. Before relocating to Seattle, Andrea worked as a program director within the University of Notre Dame’s Center for Social Concerns (CSC), the academic center housing domestic and global service-learning immersions.
Prior to providing service-learning immersions for undergraduates, Andrea participated in the Alliance for Catholic Education, a two-year program akin to Teach for America. While teaching science in an inner-city high school in Baton Rouge, LA, she completed a masters in education from Notre Dame. Since, she earned an M.A. in Seattle University’s School of Theology & Ministry and completed a Certificate in Nonprofit Management via the University of Washington. This past academic year she changed from secondary education to UW’s Evans School of Public Affairs, focusing her studies on social policy and nonprofit administration.
Andrea is very grateful to be the 2010-2011 Board Fellow with Washington CASH. She states, “Given its innovative approach to asset-building, and the strong place of respect it holds in the Puget Sound’s nonprofit community, I definitely look forward to learning from Washington CASH’s clients, board, executive director, and staff over the course of this year.”
